Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme
The fourth round of the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme was launched on the 9th April 2008 and the deadline for receipt of applications is 20th May 2008.
This scheme is worth £4m for the year 2008-9, and it will support the installation of biomass-fuelled heat and combined heat and power projects in the industrial, commercial and community sectors. "Community" can include local authorities, schools, social housing etc.
This scheme is not intended for individuals or householders who should consider the Low Carbon Buildings Programme.
Capital grants will be awarded towards the cost of the biomass heat or combined heat and power equipment, including anaerobic digestors. There will be a variable rate up to a maximum of 40% of the difference in cost compared with installation of the fossil fuel alternative. The maximum single award will be £100,000 per installation and there is no minimum.
It is hoped that the next round should be Autumn 2008, with further rounds after that.
NB The terms of this grant were negotiated with the EU in the context of 1 ROC/MWh for biomass CHP. It is expected that with the new, banded ROCs, offering 2 ROCs/MWh this may violate EU state aid rules and will not be legal. Please read the relevant section in the Guidance notes
